Step up your Audio Visual game the Movo pm10.
In this review of the Movo pm10 microphone I would be remiss not to admit the crutial role sound plays in video – though DPs and videographers are often apt to prioritize visuals over audio.
Audio quality is one of the most commonly overlooked obstacles to creating quality audio for live and recorded video.
The Movo pm10 lavalier mic fits a standard audio jack (3.5 mm). That means this mic has the same connection as you would find on most laptops, mp3 players, iphones, ipads, etc. It has a roughly 4’ ft. cord and comes with a spare windscreen and a spare clip.
As you can tell, the audio performance is far superior to the onboard mic of a decent quality DSLR (In this example, the Canon 70D) and gives a pretty true-to-life reproduction of my vocal performance.
I notice that it does tend to amplify the lower frequencies over the higher frequencies, which might be something to consider if you will be using this for something other than speaking as it may not pick up higher frequency sounds as well.

Whether you’re on iPhone, Windows, Android or Galaxy; as long as you have a standard audio jack, this mic will improve the audio on whatever you film from your phone.
The sound quality you’ll get from this sub $20 microphone will drastically improve the overall quality of anything you put out, whether it’s live on Periscope or Meerkat, or recorded for Youtube, or Vimeo.
For such a small investment, you will probably be very surprised at the results.
This is a great option for producers and creators on a budget but there are other options that you might consider if you have a more flexible pocketbook. The number one contender being the Rode smartLav+.

The Movo pm10 gets compared to the Rode SmartLav+ mic, which sells for about $80 on Amazon, but seems to hold its own.
Depending who you ask the performance is pretty similar, especially if you’re a hobbiest, like myself. (I have not personally reviewed the Rode SmartLav+)
If you’re looking to take your videos to the next level, producing better quality crisp and clear audio will go a long way.
Auphonic App is the name of the recording software I use on iOs. This is software I have used and tested and prefer to the RØDE Recording App.
I am not an audio engineer, but I am quite the hobbyist. I’d be interested to hear from anyone with more experience in audio mixing about how they feel the two perform against one another.
